BARRED SERRANO

Serranus psittacinus

English: Barred Serrano
Spanish: Camotillo, Guaseta serrano, Serrano guaseta

The Barred Serrano is characterized by a series of eight to ten broad dark bars on each side, about six to eight orange blotches lateral midline, and a multitude of small spots on its dorsal fin and tail.

It reaches a length of 7 inches and is found in the first 200 feet of the water column.

In Mexico waters the Barred Serrano is found in all waters of the Sea of Cortez and mainland western Mexico.

This fish species is usually too small to fillet.
